AUT Chinese Center is a part of International Relations and Development and AUT Student Services. It assists International Relations and Development in hosting Chinese delegations and visitors from China. It also assists Chinese speaking students who study at AUT. This place welcomes not only Chinese speaking students but also all AUT students who are interested in China and Chinese.
Their main services include holding study workshops, providing information and advice on studying and living in Auckland, organising language buddies between New Zealanders and Chinese students, introducing peer tutoring and holding various activities for Chinese students connected with the AUT Chinese Student Association. The centre is equipped with five standard computers and popular Chinese magazines and books about Chinese culture. All services are free of charge to AUT students and it is a small library like environment.
It is the only organization in New Zealand established to particularly help Chinese students. There are two more counterpart organizations, New Zealand Contemporary China Research Center at Victoria University and Confucius Institute which is jointly established by The University of Auckland with other organizations, however, they are research related and has a main role to promote Chinese language and culture in New Zealand respectively. AUT Chinese Center has a unique service and it is a home for all the Chinese speaking students at AUT.
